Uranium Contamination at Yerington

Thanks to work from devoted activists like Peggy Pauly and Earle Dixon, the abandoned copper mine at Yerington, NV, is under federal scrutiny. Besides uranium contamination of residential wells and groundwater reserves, radiation levels in dust and soil are 200 times background levels. After years of company obstruction and state neglect, Great Basin Mine Watch and Yerington residents celebrated a victory in late 2004 when Governor Kenny Guinn called on EPA to take on the cleanup.
