MINING: IT'S THE PITS

If the state of Nevada were a country, it would rank as the third largest gold-producing nation in the world. Unfortunately, the biggest polluter in the state is also the gold mining industry. Mercury emissions, wasting of precious groundwater reserves, radioactive abandoned mines and perpetual pollution without proper cleanup are just some of the problems that many Nevada communities face because of mining.
